Partnership Co-hosts Cancer Poster Contest for Local Students (7/25/08)
In an effort to bring cancer awareness to the community level, the Connecticut Cancer Partnership and Hartford Hospital hosted a cancer poster competition for students from the Greater Hartford Academy of Mathematics
and Science (GHAMAS).
The winners, selected during ceremonies on June 5 at Hartford Hospital, were: 1st place - Sanjana Patel (Colorectal Cancer); 2nd place - Harsida Desai (Skin Cancer); 3rd place - Chelsea Yalen (Pancreatic Cancer).
The top 3 winners received engraved plaques, and all contestants received certificates. The posters were on display in the hospital cafeteria through June 13.

Entries were judged by four members of the Connecticut Cancer Partnership: Camille Servodidio, RN, MPH, CRNO, OCN, Treatment Committee Co-Chair; Patricia Trotta, RN, MSN, Palliative & Hospice Care Committee Co-Chair and Partnership Coordinator; Linda Mowad, RN, Early Detection Committee Co-Chair; and Andrew L. Salner, MD, FACR, Partnership Chair.
GHAMAS is located at the Learning Corridor, 15 Vernon Street, Hartford, and features partnerships with MIT, Trinity College,
UConn Medical School, and Hartford Hospital. Students from grades 9-12 earn college credits for science and math during their four years at the academy. The school features state-of-the-art laboratories for research on cell cultures, lasers/photonics, molecular genetics, robotics/electronics, geographic information systems, botanical studies, forensic science, and nuclear physics.
