Partners Honored with
University of Connecticut Outreach and Public Engagement Awards
Mark Samos, Special Assistant to Tribal Council Secretary Charlene Jones at the Mashantucket
Pequot Tribal Nation, and Denis Coble, Associate Professor in the Department of Allied Health at
University of Connecticut, received the University's Vice Provost Award for Outreach and
Engagement on October 12 (see photo below).
The award was presented by Krista Rodin,
Vice Provost for University Outreach. The two were lauded "for partnering on health related engaged scholarly
work," for bringing cancer prevention information to Native American
youths and adults. Mark is Secretary of the Connecticut Cancer Partnership's Board of Directors
and Denis serves on the Partnership's Prevention Committee.

Rafael Pérez-Escamilla, newly elected member of the Partnership's Board of Directors, received the Engaged Scholarship award for his work with the Hispanic Family Nutrition Program. He is Director of UConn's Center for Eliminating Health Disparities among Latinos .
