Tumor Registry Offers Interactive Web Site for Creating Maps of Cancer Incidence and Mortality (7/03/08)

The Connecticut Tumor Registry has made available an interactive web site for generating maps and tables on cancer incidence and mortality rates for each of the eight counties in Connecticut. The maps are in color, and show counties grouped in quartiles by rate. The address of the new web site is:
http://www.cancer-rates.info/ct/

Users can create maps showing rates of invasive (malignant) or all reportable cancers, byyears of diagnosis or death (1973 through 2005), specific cancer "site" (type of cancer), county or counties, and race-ethnicity.

Rates can be crude, age-specific, age-adjusted, or age-standardized to several standard populations, allowing comparison of rates in counties with populations that differ in age composition. The statistical "confidence intervals" for each rate can be selected as part of the tabular results.

This resource was developed initially at the Kentucky State Cancer Registry and adapted for Connecticut with funding from the National Cancer Institute's (NCI's) SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results) Program, which has funded the Tumor Registry since 1973.
