New Board Members Elected at Annual Partnership Meeting (9/27/06)
The Board of Directors of the Connecticut Cancer Partnership welcomed three new Directors at the Partnership's Annual Meeting on September 27, 2006 at the Marriott Hotel in Rocky Hill.

Detterbeck Pérez-Escamilla Smith
Dr. Frank Detterbeck, Professor and Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine and Associate Director for Clinical Affairs of the Yale Cancer Center. Dr. Detterbeck received his medical degree from Northwestern University. He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, the author of several book chapters and a reviewer for the journals such as Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Chest, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. In 2003 Dr. Detterbeck received the Outstanding Service Award from Cancer Care, Inc.
Dr. Rafael Pérez-Escamilla, Director of the Connecticut Center of Excellence for Eliminating Health Disparities among Latinos and a Professor of Nutrition at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Pérez-Escamilla is an internationally recognized scholar in the areas of domestic and international community nutrition. He leads capacity building projects in Connecticut on Latino community nutrition and Latino health disparities. He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and technical reports. Dr. Pérez-Escamilla serves in the editorial boards of the Journal of Nutrition, the Journal of Human Lactation, and the Journal of Hunger and Environmental Nutrition.
Maureen Smith, Director of Consumer Relations at the Office of Healthcare Advocate, State of Connecticut. Maureen Smith is Director of Consumer Relations at The Office of The Healthcare Advocate, State of Connecticut. She focuses on assisting consumers and providers in reaching resolution to their problems with health insurance. A registered nurse, Maureen has clinical expertise in pediatrics, neonatology and gerontology and business experience in managed care. In addition to assisting consumers, Maureen also represents her agency in projects involving healthcare issues. She is currently on the Board of Directors for the CT Cancer Care Program, member of the CT Family Support Council and participates in the Department of Public Health’s Diabetes Program.
