PREVENTION COMMITTEE
Current Activities
The Prevention Committee is working to:
- Reduce the proportion of adults and youths who currently use tobacco, paying special attention to populations experiencing tobacco-related disparities
- Provide all Connecticut residents with access to effective tobacco cessation services
- Increase the proportion of adults and youths who make healthy food choices, including increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables to meet current HHS and USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans
- Decrease the proportion of adults and high school students who engage in no leisure time physical activity or exercise
- Reduce the percentage of overweight and obese adults and children
- Increase the public’s awareness of cancer-related environmental exposures and protective measures
- Increase the practice of sun protective behaviors especially among youths; increase awareness of risk of overexposure to ultraviolet light in tanning booths
- Reduce the percentage of adults and adolescents who engage in excessive drinking (more than two drinks per day for males and one drink per day for females)
- Increase to 50% the proportion of adults who always use condoms if sexually active with more than one sex partner; increase to 95% the proportion of high school students who abstain from sexual intercourse or use condoms if sexually active.
